Emergent Software is seeking a Senior Software Architect with deep expertise in designing and implementing high-performance, secure, and scalable financial transaction systems. This role requires the ability to architect and build a credit card processing platform from the ground up, emphasizing processing speed, security, up-time, scalability, and data integrity. A qualified candidate will have advanced knowledge of C#, .NET, Azure infrastructure, and payment processing standards, along with experience in architecting distributed systems that meet stringent compliance and reliability requirements.

 Typical Tech Stack 

  • C# and .NET (latest versions) 

  • Blazor or React (JS or TypeScript) 

  • Azure SQL 

  • Azure PaaS (App Services, Blob Storage, Service Bus, Key Vault, etc.) 

  • Azure DevOps for CI/CD 

  • Payment Gateway APIs and PCI-compliant frameworks 

 Primary Duties 

  • Architect and design a credit card processing system with a focus on:  

  • High throughput and low latency transaction processing 

  • Security and compliance (PCI DSS, encryption, tokenization) 

  • Fault tolerance and high availability 

  • Horizontal scalability and load balancing 

  • Data integrity and accuracy 

  • Lead technical requirements gathering, infrastructure design, and technology selection for financial transaction systems. 

  • Collaborate with clients to define secure payment workflows and integration strategies. 

  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship across multiple projects. 

  • Establish and enforce best practices for secure coding and transaction handling. 

  • Work on multiple projects simultaneously and prioritize effectively. 

  • Participate in all aspects of the agile software development life cycle. 

Qualifications 

  • Exceptional technical communication skills for explaining complex financial system architectures to technical and non-technical audiences. 

  • Deep knowledge of distributed system architecture and security best practices for financial applications. 

  • Advanced experience with:  

    • .NET back end 

    • Azure cloud-native services (App Services, Functions, Storage, Key Vault) 

    • Data Access (Entity Framework, T-SQL) 

    • Azure SQL 

    • Identity and Access Management (Okta, Auth0, Azure B2C) 

  • Strong understanding of:  

    • Payment processing standards (PCI DSS) 

    • Encryption and tokenization techniques 

    • Fraud detection and prevention strategies 

  • Ability to design for 99.99% uptime, disaster recovery, and transaction reconciliation

  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines, DevOps, and secure deployment practices.  

  • Knowledge of ISO 8583, EMV, or similar transaction protocols. 

  • Payment Certification processes. 

Nice to Have 

  • Experience with payment gateways (e.g., Stripe, Adyen, Authorize.Net). 

  • Familiarity with real-time monitoring and alerting systems. 

  • Previous consulting experience in financial services or fintech. 

  • Experience with machine learning for fraud detection.
