Power BI Developer (Contract)

**This is a contract opportunity with our client. Candidates have the flexibility to work fully remotely or in a hybrid capacity from the Minneapolis, MN office. Candidates must be authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship.**

We are seeking a self-sufficient and experienced Power BI Developer to support our enterprise reporting needs during the final phase of a digital transformation from a legacy ERP system to Microsoft Dynamics 365 (D365). In this role, you will focus on designing, developing, and maintaining insightful dashboards and reports, working closely with business stakeholders, data engineers, and business analysts. You’ll be stepping into a well-structured environment where data pipelines and models are in place. Your primary responsibility will be reporting and visualization using Power BI.

Responsibilities:

  • Design, build, and deploy intuitive and impactful Power BI dashboards and reports tailored to enterprise application data (ERP, CRM, etc.).

  • Translate business needs into functional and technical reporting requirements.

  • Connect to diverse data sources (SQL Server, Excel, APIs) and transform data using Power Query and DAX.

  • Work with existing data models; focus on data visualization and insight delivery.

  • Collaborate with data teams to ensure high-quality, accurate reporting aligned with business goals.

  • Optimize report performance and apply best practices in data visualization and modeling.

  • Implement and manage data security, including row-level security (RLS).

  • Document report logic, data sources, and processes.

Required Qualifications:

  • 2+ years of hands-on Power BI development experience (flexible on years if skill level is high).

  • Strong DAX and Power Query (M) skills.

  • Solid understanding of relational databases, SQL, and enterprise data structures.

  • Experience working with enterprise application data (ERP, CRM – ideally Microsoft D365).

  • Ability to work independently and drive deliverables with minimal oversight.

  • Experience with Fabric platform and semantic models.

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience with Microsoft Azure ecosystem (Data Factory, Synapse, Azure SQL).

  • Exposure to Power Platform tools (Power Apps, Power Automate).

  • Experience with DevOps/ADO pipelines and workflow management.

  • Familiarity with building paginated reports using Power BI/Fabric.

  • Microsoft Certified: Data Analyst Associate or similar certification.

  • Prior involvement in digital transformation projects or ERP migrations is a strong plus.
