** This is an opportunity to join our dynamic team of SQL Server database professionals working together managing environments and implementing interesting projects for our clients. This position is fully remote (indefinitely). ** 

Emergent Software is seeking a Senior SQL Server Infrastructure & Development DBA who is a smart, passionate, and detail oriented and enjoys a mix of DBA work and database development using Microsoft SQL Server to deliver solutions on behalf of our clients. A qualified candidate has knowledge of configuration & managing SQL Server infrastructure and databases and database development experience. This 100% remote position is for self-starters with good communication skills, work ethic, and the ability to manage work across numerous clients and priorities.

Responsibilities 

  • Lead the design and implementation of database architecture, including advanced HA/DR solutions (Always On Availability Groups, failover clusters, geo-replication) 

  • Perform capacity planning, growth forecasting, and resource optimization 

  • Define and enforce database standards, best practices, and security policies 

  • Conduct performance baselining, advanced performance tuning, and optimization at the server, instance, and storage levels 

  • Design and implement disaster recovery plans and perform regular DR testing 

  • Guide and mentor junior and mid-level DBAs, providing technical leadership 

  • Collaborate with infrastructure, network, and application teams on enterprise-level initiatives 

  • Review and approve major database schema changes, migrations, or new deployments 

  • Conduct database audits and compliance checks (SOX, GDPR, HIPAA, etc.) 

  • Manage enterprise monitoring solutions and proactively identify performance bottlenecks 

  • Engage in strategic planning, advising on technology roadmap and future-state architecture 

  • Participate in budgeting and licensing discussions related to SQL Server environments 

  • Lead root cause analysis (RCA) on critical incidents and implement preventative measures 

  • Oversee automation initiatives to improve operational efficiency (PowerShell scripting, automation frameworks) 

  • This role requires participation in on-call up to 2x per month. 

Required Experience 

  • 5+ years of experience doing SQL Server related work 

  • Advanced SQL syntax 

  • Alerting configuration in SQL Server Agent 

  • Parallelism settings tuning 

Nice to Have Experience 

  • Prior consulting experience 

  • Red Gate SQL Monitor 

  • Replication and/or log shipping configuration 

  • Virtual machine configuration in VMware and/or Hyper-V 

  • Windows clustering configuration 

  • Disk and network performance evaluation
